7 signs your website is costing you customers
Most business websites don’t fail loudly. They fail quietly: people visit, look around for a few seconds, and leave for a competitor. Here are the signs to look for.

1. It doesn’t say what you do in five seconds
If a visitor has to scroll to understand what you sell and who it’s for, many won’t. Your first screen should answer three questions: what you do, who it’s for and what to do next.
2. There’s no obvious next step
“Contact us” buried in a footer isn’t a next step. Every page needs one clear action, such as Book a cleaning, Get a quote or Chat on WhatsApp, repeated where people need it.
3. It’s hard to use on a phone
Most of your visitors are on mobile. If text is tiny, buttons are hard to tap or pages take ages to load on data, people leave before they read anything.
4. It looks older than your business
Customers use your website to judge your quality. An outdated design makes a good business look small or careless, even when it isn’t.
5. There’s no proof
Real reviews, photos of real work and clear examples build trust. Without them, visitors have to take your word for it, and many won’t.
6. Your contact details are hard to find
In Nigeria especially, many customers prefer to message on WhatsApp. If your number isn’t one tap away, you’re making it harder for people to buy.
7. You can’t update it
If changing a price or adding a new service means waiting on a developer, your website slowly falls out of date and starts telling customers the wrong things.
What to do next
Pick the two signs that hurt you most and fix those first. Small changes, like a clearer headline and a WhatsApp button, often make a bigger difference than a full redesign.
